A note from the Author, Jeni Leidenfrost
I live in a beautiful place called “The Palouse”, in the northwestern United States, with my husband and kiddos. When my children were little, I told them stories at bedtime – Little Mouse books are based on those stories! Lots of people helped me make this story much better than it started out to be. Editors, writing groups, my friend and illustrator Jessica Linn Evans, my family, kids, and of course our publisher Jason Farley all gave me feedback and suggestions – and I am very grateful! It is important to me that this Little Mouse story is available for everyone, including people who are visually impaired. So, with help from my friend Bart Budwig, I recorded both a read-along version for folks who need a little help, and a full Descriptive Image Audio recording in which I describe Jessica’s beautiful illustrations along with the text, for folks who have significant vision issues. Thank you very much for visiting this site, and I really do hope you like the story!

Stories for children are just as important as the food they eat – they need good stories to grow healthy and strong on the inside! When I paint, I take all the good things in the story and put a magnifying glass up to them to show everyone their wonder. My paintings try to awaken an awareness in children to the everyday miracles in the world around them. There is so much magic in our world, and who can’t use a little more magic? So, my job is to help the author serve up good, healthy stories. But healthy doesn’t have to be boring, it can be magical! And I’m not into skipping dessert.
